For my BTEC in games development, i have an assignment to complete on whether violent computer games can affect someones behavior.
So what are your opinions? Do you think prolonged exposure to violence in computer games can alter someones behavior, particularly at a younger age? And do you think that nowadays it is too easy for someone under 18 to get hold of and play a game that has an age certificate of 18? I'm hoping to get a range of answers form people of different ages and backgrounds, even if you don't play computer games yourself,
Thanks :)Can violence in computer games influence violent behavior?
For some people they think it's just a game. But for some other people, they do it in the real world because they have a revenge to do and so .......
Yes definately. My little brother started video games 4 years ago (not violent at all. Just the plain Frogger, Zelda, etc.) and we started noticing change in his behavior. Not too bad but once he started going to the "T-rated" games we started noticing issues in his behavior. It literally started having heated arguments everyday. Then we just had to detox him of video games for the rest of the year and we still wont' let him have it. We tried giving it to him 3 times and he just reverted to his own ways. I'm not saying video games are bad; but it definately didnt' work for me.Can violence in computer games influence violent behavior?
Well, that depends at the phisicologic of the person. Some persons have tendency to kill and similar things, and violent videogames can increase this tendency. But there are some persons that don't have any problem with these games. They can play it with no risks ^^. Like a magazine said: These games don't build an army of maniacs. They just show some ways of killing someone to the already existent army of maniacs.
I hope that my comment helped ^^!
I think violent games, books, and violent movies can influence violent behavior; especially in young children. My nephew absolutely LOVES Transformers. He got in trouble at school not to long ago for holding his younger friend down on the ground and punching him. When the teacher asked why he did it he said, "We were just playing Transformers."
Violent media doesn't affect all children this way, I'm sure but everyone's different. Can violence in computer games influence violent behavior?
1. I've played and watched my father play games like Resident Evil from as far back as I can remember, but I'm not violent. It all depends on the person, but nobody I know is affected by it.
2. About getting games made for 18 year-olds while being younger, yes. I can play Grand Theft Auto right now, and I'm not 18. All my friends play Grand Theft Auto.
It could if also at a young age it is made clear to the child by the parent(s) the difference between real life and fantasy and the consequence of real life violence.
No, the classic example is Japan.
They have far more violent entertainment than anywhere else and very low crime rates.
Yeah totally
