My son is away at college but for several years, before he left, played computer games for countless hours at a time.
He has canceled several classes and it fits a pattern. He plays Computer games all night and can't get up for AM classes..Is it possible to be addicted to computer games and are any support groups available thru the university?
Yes it is possible. (It's also possible to be addicted to yahoo answers %26lt;g%26gt;) In principle, it is possible to be addicted to anything.
If he himself wants to change, he can approach the student counseling service. This is one of the behaviours that counseling (aka psychotherapy) can help with. There is likely to be an underlying discontent from which computer games is his attempt to escape.
But mom or dad wanting son to be different from who he is...... sorry, luv..... that has been around since Adam and Eve had a problem with a delinquent son called Cain. The more you are able to love him as he is (without pretending to approve his behavior), the better your prospects of his choosing the change that you would like to see.
If you are willing, you can pray passionately for him, too .... more has been accomplished by the power of prayer than is known to have been. (Prayer to be effective needs to be persistent, frequent, deep, heart-felt, genuine, and earnest.)
And I would encourage you not to despair of him, whatever happens. For example, sometimes people learn from experience. If he drops out this year, he may learn from the consequences and go back to college later in life when he is more emotionally ready. Or he may find his way to happiness without a degree. Is it possible to be addicted to computer games and are any support groups available thru the university?
hell yeah their addicting.u know why? because they are(key word here)FUN. Screw what people say about games harming you. F-That! If anything they make you hella-smarter. Look at me, I've had a game control in my hands since I was 2. I'm 26 now. My I.Q is 138. I work 60+ hours a week, married w/ 4 kids ages 4, 2,1, %26amp; 1 month. And I STILL play the hell out of games. NOBODY NEEDS ANY DAMN SUPPORT GROUP FOR PLAYING GAMES!!.Is it possible to be addicted to computer games and are any support groups available thru the university?
yes, it's possible. But probably, if he doesn't seek help himself, there's nothing you can do.
