It doesn't seem to make much difference anyway. Films are rated but it still comes down to responsible parenting. The number of children who tell me they have watched 18 films at home and at friends houses is absolutely unbelievable. Some of the things they watch I would never dream of watching. They watch them and most of their parents know they do. Perhaps it is time to stop young children having TV's and PC in their rooms. At least then responsible parents can monitor what their children are doing.

I love video games and I am a huge gamer. One of the types of games that I enjoy and play a lot of are violent video games. I don't have any problem with violent video games because these are just pixelated, animated 3D characters that are being violent, it's not like these characters are real life humans getting hurt. Some people argue that violent video games cause kids to be violent in real life and I completely disagree. Since I was little, I played children's games, but I also played violent games like Robocop versus Terminator and Mortal Kombat (one of the best, bloodiest fighting games ever), but even as a child, I knew that those violent images were NOT REAL. I also thank God that I came from a good Christian home and I was raised in the way of God. So even though I played video games like that, I was not going to kill anybody in real life because that did not cross my mind as a child, (to me I was just having fun playing videogames) and killing is wrong and a sin.
As far as if videogames are more violent these days...honestly, I don't think so. I think that videogames then and now had the same amount of violence, it's just that now the graphics of videogames are so much better than back then so that's why it might look more violent. Back in the day, there were so many violent video games like the Mortal Kombat series which even nowadays when I play old Mortal Kombat games I still find the violence to be brutal and gruesome. Games like Resident Evil 1, 2, 3 and Code Veronica, legacy of cain, silent hill, those are also old school games that are extremely violent.

What I mean is that, to me, video games are still as violent as back in the day but now they are not only violent but offensive in the sense that they include sexual themes and say degrading, offensive words. Like games like Saints Row and Saints Row 2, Grand Theft Auto are really violent games but they are offensive because the characters swear a lot, women in these games are degraded, there is nudity and sex so that's what I mean. But I do love Saints Row 2 because it is so much fun despite the offensiveness.

Some girls dislike it, some girls like it. It all depends , everyone is different. Some of the time the reasons females don't like them are because that's what gets all of the attention, or you spend all your time doing that and nothing else. Like I said, everyone varies, and whether girls (like myself) like it or not we will all just have to either get over it or join in. I don't see the making of video games stopping anytime soon, or guys stop playing them. Why does my computer lag when I play computer games?
It used to be fine before when I played Call of duty single player but now it lags like crazy. Its kind of the drunk feeling lag. So far Call of duty and Tom Clancy's Hawxs is lagging alot. And I have a very good computer to support those games because I have already played them before and the lag has never happened until now. I believe its a virus in my computer or a serious problem with the hardware.

You might need faster internet if you're playing online. Installing some more RAM to your computer may help. If it is a virus, download some anti virus software, like avast! or AVG and run a system scan.

I have played all (or most) of the different type of consoles games from Atari %26amp; Nintendo all the way up to to the Nintendo wii %26amp; Game Cube and ever scents I have been hooked on the Computer Games (about 1996) I have play some on the other games but would NOT ever go back to the any of the other games consoles fully.

If I was setting up a new gaming PC today I would only consider using a 64 bit operating system. Unfortunately that OS would have to be Windows because most games require it. If you have a 32 bit OS you can't access more than 4GB memory space - with the graphics card and other hardware's mem space decucted from that you may have less than 3GB available. Personally I prefer a quad core but this isn't vital since the majority of games can't use more than two cores well. Graphics card should be an ATI HD4870 or an NVidia GTX200 series card at least. Maybe buy the dual core CPU so that you can get a better graphics card, since the G card is usually the bottleneck in the system. A Core i7 might make little difference with an NVidia 9800GT for example since a Core2Duo can supply it with all the data that it can handle.

I mean, I would understand if you are old, like if your generation grew up playing the first video games to ever be made, but yeah, if the story is good, then graphics and video quality shouldn't really figure into it. It's much like the Beatles, even though there's way better music nowadays, they were the first, the pioneers, and they are still very popular and relevant in today's culture and society. So if you want to play the classics, by all means go for it. I myself sold my PS2 to upgrade to a PS3, so I'm sorry I don't share your love and nostalgia for the old video games. I like the new ones better, I feel they are superior to the originals in every single way.

In my personal opinion, yes, I believe that video/computer games play a very important role in childhood obesity. Children no longer go outside and play, but sit in the house and play video games all day. These games are extremely addictive and they are responsible for an increased sedentary lifestyle among children.

video games are not responsible, kids choose to do this. i remember all i did was go outside and play when i was little. but as soon as i had that ps1 in my room, i stopped. its all about choice. i don't think video games should be blamed. you also have to think about all the fast food restaurants that are on every block of america- its crazy. we're just moving a different cultrue i guess
I would actually blame the KID! I remember when I was 12 I was obese as well. I would feel the pain everyday but know that it was MY fault that I couldn't turn my life around. When it finally reached bursting point I got motivated and lost 30 pounds! And voila! A healthy adult.

Insert game in unused disc drive. mount both USB key and game drive. make USB writable. Open game file. Search for audio codec extension (e.g. ogg, mp3 wav)
copy file. Paste in USB key. unmount USB key and remove . remove game CD. logout knoppix and remove CD from computer. Reboot computer in Windows/Mac mode. (If you had Linux you wouldn't be asking this)

2. Dont keep addictive games in the child's computer. Uninstall the harmful games from the computer. Try having an administrative user id for yourself whereby you reserve the right to install/uninstall new games, not your child.
Is he involved in any sports? My kids were expected to have their homework done before I got home from work or at least be working on it. Then it was dinner and usually off to baseball or hockey so they didn't have too much time for vids. It was usually enough for me to give them other suggestions though such as...holy crap, you've been in front of that thing for hours, why don't you call so-and-so and go swimming?
That sounds like my brother. He is ten, too, and spends too much time on my computer. Everyday when he comes in from school, he goes straight upstairs to my computer until about 8 or 9:00. He's into this game called Combat Arms. I wish I had some advice, but we are in the same boat, sister. The kitchen timer sounds like a good idea.

I lucky got into college and made a game out of everything and now have a 1st degree which is the most you can get. As surprising as it sounds i learnt a lot from the games i played.
What you should do is something that works with most situations, stop nagging and make him do more. You can get educational games these days like the brain game for nintendo DS. You can also get language learning games. What i suggest you do is buy an educational game for your brother. Say "so you like playing games" and then force him to play an educational one until he doesn't want to play games anymore. Then after that he should agree to your terms.

I am slightly addicted to computer games. I'm about to go to a very challenging High School and I don't want to have a computer addiction which will get in the way of homework, sports, friends, and everything else! Help!How can you get off of an addiction to computer games?
First things first... get rid of your games... I know this sounds tragic and you're probably thinking "what? This guy has no idea how much these games mean to me" and my answer is YES I DO, my roommate in college is the same way - hrs upon hrs of games, nothing else.
I would first get rid of them so that you can't even physically play them. Maybe keep one ore two for times when you have no other obligations.
2nd, start working out and doing lots of exercise... this will automatically make u feel less interested in sitting around playing games.
Hang out with people that are active outside the house, people who like to go out and do stuff...etc
Also, you can make a reward system for yourself. Make sure you get a certain amount of productive stuff done before you play a game. Maybe on one night you don't play at all. On the next night you can play one round or one game after you finish your homework. Start small and work your way up to never playing them anymore...

When you boot up the computer and see the Windows logo, is there a welcome screen with users' icons followed by the users' names, or does it just go to the desktop on its own? If it's the latter then you need to create accounts for the users, including you.
Go to START, CONTROL PANEL and then double click USER ACCOUNTS. Here, do you see an account already that says COMPUTER ADMINISTRATOR ?
If yes then click onto it. On the following screen that says WHAT DO YOU WANT TO CHANGE ABOUT YOUR ACCOUNT?, click CHANGE MY PASSWORD, and then go ahead a create a password to which YOU only know.
If not then click CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT. Type in a name (your name) for that account and then click NEXT. On the following screen where it says ACCOUNT TYPE, click COMPUTER ADMINISTRATOR and then click CREATE ACCOUNT. You will be back to the screen that says PICK A TASK.... OR PICK AN ACCOUNT TO CHANGE. Click onto your account and then on the following screen, click CREATE A PASSWORD. Make up a password which YOU only know.

Then, look through that. There is a place where you can make a list of ALLOWED websites. After you make this list, these will be the only websites that anyone will be able to go to unless they have the content advisor password.
Of course, this greatly limits the usability of your computer. And, if you forget your password, you have to reformat your harddrive in order to reset the password (I think that's what you'd have to do anyway).
If you add www.yahoo.com, to the list for example, you would be able to still go to mail.yahoo.com, my.yahoo.com, answers.yahoo.com, etc., I think anyway.
You can also make a list of BLOCKED websites. But, you would have to block alot of sites (yahoo games, msn games, and the list goes on and on).
One way would be to make one account for yourself with administrator priveleges, and protect it with a password. I don't have a Mac, so I don't play the games on a Mac, but a lot of the users on the community boards at Her Interactive (the company that makes the games) were really excited when they started making Mac games, and most of them seem to have had no problems.
Keep in mind that there are only three games that are compatible with Mac: Trail of the Twister, Secrets Can Kill Remastered, and Shadow at the Water's Edge. Future games are going to be Mac-compatible as well, I think, but I don't know if they'll actually go back through and make the other 21 games compatible with Mac.

When I purchased my computer (about 2 and1/2 weeks ago), I was determined to keep SecuROM of it... Then I found a game that was awesome and a great deal too (the Oblivion/Bioshock combo) and did not realize that it installed SecuROM. I would say go ahead with SecuROM because it is on a majority of games now-a-days and the games are definitely worth it. Besides... SecuROM GUARANTEES on their site that it will not harm your computer in anyway... so if it does (and you can prove it) then you can sue them for at the very least false advertising and get enough for a new (possibly better) computer and then since you have already purchased the games,you can download SecuROM cleaned versions (unless it is against the games EULA to make backup copies... but that is hardly ever the case). My computer is still working great and the games are still amazing, though, so I'd say SecuROM is definitely worth the possible (but GUARANTEED none) risk.Would you be willing to install SecuROM to play computer games?

Computer games good for daughter that will turn 6 this summer?
I want to introduce her to the computer.She has had some practice through her school but has not done too well.What are some good educational games I can get her for her birthday?She will be going into the 1st grade.Computer games good for daughter that will turn 6 this summer?
I'm not sure about games that you can buy, but my 5 year old loves pbskids.org and nickjr.com , starfall.com is another good one. All are free.
If you don't mind paying a monthly fee, Jumpstart online has a great one that my daughter loved - they usually offer a free trial. Also my daughter loves the Barbie CD-Roms, you can by them used on Amazon.com. Her favorites are Barbie Diaries, the Fashion Show , Princess and the Pauper, and Barbie Horse AdventuresComputer games good for daughter that will turn 6 this summer?
I gave my little one the Blues Clues game (there are some that focus more on math and others on language...) Also, Jump Start collection is FUN more than educational...(painting, counting up to 10 or 20). Once she turned 7 I got her Math Blaster...

It depends on the genre of games. The control schemes for games themselves are very productive the mind, games seem ludicrously childish but people don't realise the skill needed to memorise them all and play games without looking at what you are pressing. Shooters are especially good at keeping your mind on the edge, and my real-life reflexes are definately better thanks to all games. Some games are also beautifully written and have stories that match some top tier films, and are disgracefully under appreciated in the mass media... The bad sides are when you look at the clock and realise you have been up for 22 hours without having a sip of water or eating, this is not healthy but it happens regularly in the gaming world. My body clocked has been awful for years thanks to games. It can be controlled but it is easy to get carried away. Content wise, It's not moaned about in film about sexual content/Language/violence but it is in games...because they assume games are for children, this is entirely up to the parent who should be supervising what their children are playing, this is the part that I agree with about video games, although I am desensitized to violence (which is a bad thing) I would not allow my kids to play Call of duty for instance. So I would say games are like 15 hour crosswords most of the time, very beneficial to the brain, although it can get a little hectic online, there are alot of bad people playing games and it can turn into a verbal showdown alot of the time, this is an aspect that has tainted the gaming (REAL gaming) community for years sadly...What are your opinions on computer games?

Changed behavior depends on the person, if there really addicted, then they will pretty much worship the game. It could improve learning too, some games can teach you stuff.

Theres a very large variety of computer games and educational software, its like any other system on the market, its all about choice. I game often, but also use my computer to edit video/audio, and do other stuff.

It depends on the genre of games. The control schemes for games themselves are very productive the mind, games seem ludicrously childish but people don't realise the skill needed to memorise them all and play games without looking at what you are pressing. Shooters are especially good at keeping your mind on the edge, and my real-life reflexes are definately better thanks to all games. Some games are also beautifully written and have stories that match some top tier films, and are disgracefully under appreciated in the mass media... The bad sides are when you look at the clock and realise you have been up for 22 hours without having a sip of water or eating, this is not healthy but it happens regularly in the gaming world. My body clocked has been awful for years thanks to games. It can be controlled but it is easy to get carried away. Content wise, It's not moaned about in film about sexual content/Language/violence but it is in games...because they assume games are for children, this is entirely up to the parent who should be supervising what their children are playing, this is the part that I agree with about video games, although I am desensitized to violence (which is a bad thing) I would not allow my kids to play Call of duty for instance. So I would say games are like 15 hour crosswords most of the time, very beneficial to the brain, although it can get a little hectic online, there are alot of bad people playing games and it can turn into a verbal showdown alot of the time, this is an aspect that has tainted the gaming (REAL gaming) community for years sadly...What are your opinions on computer games?

Changed behavior depends on the person, if there really addicted, then they will pretty much worship the game. It could improve learning too, some games can teach you stuff.

The files must be /selected as the either Windows 95 or 98 files prior to executing the program. Follow the 3 stage process...

Insert the game CD or floppy disk into the appropriate drive. Double-click "My Computer" and select the drive in which you placed the game program disk. Double-click "Install.exe" and follow the prompts (keep clicking "Next") to install the game on the hard drive. Double-click "My Computer" and go to the directory in which you installed the game, such as the "Games" folder.
2.
Right-click the program startup file (which should have an extension of .exe) and select "Properties". Select the "Compatibility" tab and check the "Compatibility Mode" box. Select "Windows 95" from the drop-down menu and click "OK".
3.
Double-click the program startup file to launch the game.

u cannot do three things at the same time, the best way is, is to manage your time, for example u can play computer games and after that you can choose to read novels and then after that your course book by that you can do this 3 things. anyways studying your lessons may benefit you someday. just a piece of advice dude.

How do I create computer games?
I have this really good idea for a computer game, but I have no idea how to make games, or really even if I can. There's probably something I have to download or something, so if there is I'd like to know what it is.

You dont just make a game. in many cases a game takes years and years to develop. the average game takes 3 years with a crew of around 20. Although some games take more time and more manpower than others. the prettier more complicated you want it the more man power and time it is going to take. It is possible to make your own game by yourself, the question is what kind of quality will it be in the end. You can go about creating a game in the following ways.
1. Sell the idea to a game company.
2. Hire people to write the game for you.
3. Learn how to program and write it yourself. The languages you can learn are many and depending on what you want to do you might want to use different languages. Some of the languages used to write games are C, C++, C#, basic, java, flash, javascript, ect....
4. buy a game engine and learn how to use it. 2 nice and cheap game engines are
4a. realmcrafter.com makes realm crafter 3d a mmrpg game engine. Still in development but is mature enough to make a pretty nice game.
4b. yoyogames.com makes game maker 2d/3d game engine. can make all sorts of different kinds of games with this engine.
Both are fairly easy to learn and can be pretty powerful if you really want them to be. Depending on how much programming you want to learn. Either way you can make a game with either without learning any programming if you want.
There is many many more game engines out there but these 2 are inexpensive and have been around a long time. These will make desktop games.
If you want to make a game for mobils then you will want to learn java.
If you want to make web based games you will probably want to learn flash, javascript, php, css, html and mysql. Java can also be used for web based games.
it is not possible to complete a high definition game by a single person.

Such as, you buy a game and install it, play it for a year, and over time, the video game's graphics requirements causes your graphics card to break in some way, or if you install a huge video game and your hard drive just doesn't have enough room left after installing it. That'd leave it sluggish.
The only way for a video game to do direct harm to your computer is if the game is pirated, meaning there is a chance a virus or some additional software has been attached to the video game, or if you just straight torrent it off of some site.
And yes, video games can slow down your computer, but only when you're playing them, and maybe shortly afterward.

What do guys think of women who play computer games?
I like to play computer games sometimes. Not the shoot-em-up types or combat based like WOW, but mostly strategy games such as Sid Meier's Civ games or RollerCoaster Tycoon. I don't really tell other girls this and much less guys as its a bit embarassing being that I'm a twenty-something female. I'm not a fanatic or anything (no spreadsheets) but I do find it a fun way to pass the time.

I think it's brilliant and I certainly don't think it's anything worth hiding. It doesn't make you an uber geek, and even if it did, would it really matter? In your case it's just another aspect of your character, it doesn't define you. So it's just another aspect of your character that has the potential for generating conversation and communication with others. This surely can only ever be a good thing, even if it's you defending your position as a gamer against someone who thinks they are a waste of time. I'm a 23 year old bloke who enjoys a spot of gaming although not as much as I used to, and so I would find it an attractive quality if anything because it opens up more possibilities for time spent together. If I wasn't into gaming, then that wouldn't happen, but it certainly wouldn't be a turn off, just a difference.
Of course I am a fairly rational, contemplative human being. I expect some people are far less reasonable and level-headed, and I daresay some will consider you a nerd or slightly alien, but does it really matter?
