How do I create computer games?

I have this really good idea for a computer game, but I have no idea how to make games, or really even if I can. There's probably something I have to download or something, so if there is I'd like to know what it is.

thats a little question with a big answer.

You dont just make a game. in many cases a game takes years and years to develop. the average game takes 3 years with a crew of around 20. Although some games take more time and more manpower than others. the prettier more complicated you want it the more man power and time it is going to take. It is possible to make your own game by yourself, the question is what kind of quality will it be in the end. You can go about creating a game in the following ways.

1. Sell the idea to a game company.

2. Hire people to write the game for you.

3. Learn how to program and write it yourself. The languages you can learn are many and depending on what you want to do you might want to use different languages. Some of the languages used to write games are C, C++, C#, basic, java, flash, javascript, ect....

4. buy a game engine and learn how to use it. 2 nice and cheap game engines are

4a. realmcrafter.com makes realm crafter 3d a mmrpg game engine. Still in development but is mature enough to make a pretty nice game.

4b. yoyogames.com makes game maker 2d/3d game engine. can make all sorts of different kinds of games with this engine.

Both are fairly easy to learn and can be pretty powerful if you really want them to be. Depending on how much programming you want to learn. Either way you can make a game with either without learning any programming if you want.

There is many many more game engines out there but these 2 are inexpensive and have been around a long time. These will make desktop games.

If you want to make a game for mobils then you will want to learn java.

If you want to make web based games you will probably want to learn flash, javascript, php, css, html and mysql. Java can also be used for web based games.
it is not possible to complete a high definition game by a single person.

Download scratch programming language this is for a beginner. Then you can download free trial for a month of flash and you can use it to create iPhone apps or computer games and other stuff
