I have a ton of CD-ROM computer games, but they say they are for Windows 95/98. Can I run them on Windows XP Media Center 2005/Professional SP3?Can I use older computer games on my newer computer?
Good news, you can run your Windows 95/98 games on XP!
The files must be /selected as the either Windows 95 or 98 files prior to executing the program. Follow the 3 stage process...
1.
Insert the game CD or floppy disk into the appropriate drive. Double-click "My Computer" and select the drive in which you placed the game program disk. Double-click "Install.exe" and follow the prompts (keep clicking "Next") to install the game on the hard drive. Double-click "My Computer" and go to the directory in which you installed the game, such as the "Games" folder.
2.
Right-click the program startup file (which should have an extension of .exe) and select "Properties". Select the "Compatibility" tab and check the "Compatibility Mode" box. Select "Windows 95" from the drop-down menu and click "OK".
3.
Double-click the program startup file to launch the game.
I hope this helped you???

AFTER PUTTING IN THE DISK, THE SETUP INSTALLSHIELD WIZARD SHOULD INSTALL THE VAST MAJORITY OF THEM JUST FINE. fOR THE ONES THAT DON'T, :
RIGHT CLICK ON THE DRIVE AFTER THE DISC IS IN IT, AND CHOOSE TO "EXPLORE" IT.
You are looking for the file "setup.exe" for most of these older ones. right-click on it, select "properties",and choose the advanced tab, and check the box to run the program as an Administrator. Click apply to save the changes, then choose the compatibility tab, where you can elect to run the install in compatibility mode for any earlier version of windows. Click apply, and close the menu.
Now run the setup.exe by double-clicking on it...this will install the game as it was meant to be.
If you have trouble running the game after the install, the cure is the exact same process for installing
was, only now you are applying the changes to the (appname).exe file. TO keep everything smooth after installing, and playing, defrag even if windows says it's not necessary. THIS is the way to keep your system fast, and your files uncorrupted. Can I use older computer games on my newer computer?
Yes you can but some may not run properly without compatibility mode. If there's a game that won't run on XP, right click on the installer, click Properties. Click compatibility tab. Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", Then choose either Windows 95 or Windows 98/ Windows ME.
