The experience of being a gamer has changed radically. A new generation game console hits the market every 5 or 6 years, exploring realistic three-dimensional worlds in high resolution with surround sound. Latest are the next generation of consoles led by Xbox 360, Sony Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Wii.
How are they better than computer games? What are the advantages of a console-based gaming system, compared to computer PC games ?
They are alot cheaper than computers. You also dont have to worry if your system specs is good enough to play the games, all you have to do is see if it runs on which ever system and your good to go.What are the advantages of a console-based gaming system, compared to computer PC games ?
A computer needs a hard drive, a graphics card and a sound card (basics) to play video games but as every computer varies in gaming PC programmers don't have much to go on when creating a game, they can use the optimum capasity of the graphic drivers they are using and the game still may look bad or even not run on a non compatable computer.
Each console is unique and every console gaming company has a particular favourite console that its graphics drivers and system program too. Take Atlus. they make a lot of amazing RPG games and most of them appear on the PS2. The PS2's hardware is (i think though i'm not sure how original Xbox varies in most cases) the most optimum of the previous genoration and Atlus have curtain graphics drivers they use in their games to bring out the PS2's fullest gaming and graphic potential.
PC programmers have a harder time doing that. a lot of PC games are better played on the PC (Viva Pinata, The SIMS and pretty much any shooting or RTS game) so in some ways PC's are better than consoles, it's more about what you play and what you look for in a game. I love SIMS but i really love RPG's too, so i play mostly PS2/3 games over PCWhat are the advantages of a console-based gaming system, compared to computer PC games ?
Here are some advantages of console based gaming over PC gaming:
- FIXED hardware, PC's have a wide range of hardware among the users, thus developers have to develop the game according to that. All consoles have the same hardware, so a developer can easily push a 360 game far because they know everyone is going to have the same hardware (except for the HDD)
- Easily playable, users don't have to worry about hardware requirements and can easily just put the game in and play knowing it's going to work.
- Cost: the amount of money to get the "top of the the line" gaming PC can cost in the thousands. Consoles are just generally cheaper.
Stability! The game consoles are for games and games only, and the games that work on them are specifically made for those consoles. You don't have to worry about compatibility.
With PC games you have to make sure that the PC is optimized for games, and that it is strong enough to play that game. You have to worry about video RAM and video boards, things like that. You could crash a PC that's not optimize for a resource-hogging game.
