I was thinking of getting a gaming CPU (I don't know what kind yet, probably AlienWare) But I want one that will run good with all that. But Gaming computers are expensive and I would be willing to spend no more than $1000 for one. What would be a good fairly cheap CPU for designing computer games?
CPU is a type of part in computers (Processor). From what your asking it doesn't seem like your building a computer.
Anywho, Any computer these days can handle just about any video game. I had a 64mb video card, 512mb of ram, and a 40gb hard. Just a really crapy computer in general. That could play World of Warcraft, CS:S, and even Team Fortress 2 on low settings. The laptop i have now can play all my games and then some. It has 3gb of DDR2 ram, and AMD Athlon II dual-core M300 with a 512mb video card. Forgot the brand name. Anywho
It doesn't matter much, Just get the computer with the best spec and is the cheapest around that area.
Well if you're talking strictly aboud CPUs, (which is nothing more than the processor itself...) I would recommend an Intel Core i3 or Intel Core i5.
They are the lastest from the Intel corportation, and support all kinds of features like turbo-boost --%26gt; which automatically allows the processor to operate faster under more intense situations (such as graphic design). On the other hand, in situations that involvle mundane activities such as checking e-mail or just surfing the web --%26gt; the processor can actually decrease its speed to save both power and money (that is on your electric bill of course)!
If you're considering building your own computer, here's a few I would take a look at:
1. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115221
2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115220
And if you're feeling like you really need to pack a punch, there's always the insane line of Intel Core i7 processors --%26gt; although from my experience, the Intel Core i3 and i5's have PLENTY of processing power themselves.
Here's an i7 just in case you were trying to get a feel for what one costs:

Good Luck !What would be a good fairly cheap CPU for designing computer games?
hello? Was it DESIGNING OR PLAYING???
well, for a gaming CPU, I would do:(most of game now supports 2 cores, that means CORE 2 DUO, NO NEED I7 it'll go waiste)
Mainboard: Gigabyte GA EP45-UD3P ~ 150USD
RAM: 4gb fsb 1066mhz(dual channel) ~ 25USD for a 1GB stick, 45USD for a 2GB stick
CPU: Intel(R) Core 2 Duo e8400,3.0ghz, fsb 1333mhz(Or e7400,2.8ghz, fsb 1066mhz) ~ 180USD
VGA: GTX260 Gigabyte/EVGA/ASUS ~ 185USD~250USD
PSU: Thermaltake 600w ~ 70USD
TOTAL: estimate 700USD
go on dell website there u can assemble your own pc
many option for CPU , GPU , and RAMWhat would be a good fairly cheap CPU for designing computer games?
Try core i7 processors
Forget about dell, if you want real computer you'll not go there. Designing computer games will be more stressful on the CPU, though GPU will have to be good too if you want to see your games at higher settings and resolutions. 3-4GB memory will be enough.
New Phenom and even Athlon II processors are pretty good at high frequencies, make for a good cheap computer with like 785G motherboard and regular RAM. Intel Core i5 750 is a great value, it should be paired with P55 motherboard and 4GB dual channel RAM like DDR3 1333 or 1600.
As for the hard drive stick with Western Digital or Samsung, don't take Seagate - lots of failures now. For the videocard I like Nvidia 9800GT - new ones do not draw a lot of power, no need for expensive PSU. Power supply by the way should be reliable - Antec, Corsair, Thermaltake, ABS, same brands are preferable for cases - make sure they come with good 120mm silent fans - one on the back, one on the top, and front intake for best performance. Don't be cheap and get a nice CPU cooler like Cooler Master Hyper 212 or TX3 - it's important. Overclocking allows higher CPU frequencies for free if you know how to do it.
www.CentaurusComputers.com offers excellent gaming computers and affordable too, lots of customization, free shipping and 3 year warranty, best packaging and FedEx service included. They overclock for free - like i7 930 with Hyper 212 they push from 2.8Ghz to 3.8Ghz - that a nice boost.
Good luck
